Family Steigner

The name possibly comes from an occupational name. A “Steiger” was a supervisory miner who supervised the arrangements to the pit entrance.

The origin of the family Steigner is not clear. The first tracks appear in Pirmasens and in Bruchweiler near Dahn in the southern part of Rhineland-Palatinate, a region in which also underground mining played a weighty role. In the area around Dahn even is the conurbation of this surname today.
